Hospitality Hour For All Ages Follows Worship Each Week

“Open Hearts. Open Minds. Open Doors.”
The People of the United MethodistChurch

July 4, 2010

“Great Is Thy Faithfulness, Lord, Unto Me!” . . .
These words from a beloved, noble old hymn remind us of a powerful truth---that God is faithful and stands by us, no matter what.  We challenge you to remain faithful to God, with worship, Christian fellowship, prayer and service, whether you are home or away.  Here are three summer suggestions:

  • We would like to again create a "Where We Worshipped" Summer Church Bulletin Collage Board. If you are away on vacation, remember the Sabbath and keep it holy by attending worship wherever you are. Bring back a church bulletin from the church you attended, to be added to the Summer Church Bulletin Collage Board.  Leave your bulletin with the pastor or in the church office.
  • You are encouraged to choose a prayer partner and promise to pray for each other over the summer, especially if you are away. Try to communicate via phone or e-mail, share your prayer concerns, remind each other to pray for our church and for the pastor, and remind each other to visit a church for worship while on vacation.
  • Care about those whom Jesus cared about and do at least one random act of kindness daily.

Our Fair Trade “Store” will be Open SUNDAY, July 4  . . . during Hospitality Hour.  Purchasing Fair Trade items enables you to work for justice by using your consumer dollars to support an economic system which mirrors the gospel values of cooperation, human dignity, and care of the earth. So, buy fair trade and help change the world!  Buy your summer supply of chocolate now, because none will be ordered again until October, when the weather is cooler and it is safe to ship chocolate again.

Please Host A Summer Hospitality Hour . . .
Hospitality Hour is our weekly “church social” for all ages.  We catch up with old friends, make new ones, listen and minister to one another, laugh together and network over light refreshments.  This is a vital time in the life of the church and continues through the summer months with cold drinks and simple snacks.  Hosts are asked to provide 2 gallons of a cold drink and simple snacks not requiring plates or forks. Please take a look at the new sign up sheet in the Narthex and choose a week to host.  If you are new to this, Violet Simpson will be glad to share the how to’s with you.

Sunday Morning Bible Study . . .
Sunday Morning Bible Study (9 - 9:50 AM, in classroom #5, before Worship) will continue throughout the summer.  Please consider stopping by at any time, (especially the choir members who now have a little break from the usual routine).  Our discussions are relevant, insightful and uplifting and we would love to have you join us at any time.  Readings for July 4: Luke 10.1-11, 16-20, July 11: Luke 10.25-37, July 18: Luke 10.38-42, July 25: Luke 11.1-13, August 1: Luke 12.13-21, August 8: Luke 12.32-40, August 15: Luke 12.49-56, August 22: Luke 13.10-17, August 29: Luke 14.1, 7-14.

Sunday School . . . One-Room Sunday School continues over the summer months but the faithful women who taught all year get a well-deserved break.  If you are able to teach one or more weeks this summer, please speak to Maureen Peraza. No prior teaching experience is necessary as the curriculum is very easy to use.

Open Dates for Altar Flowers . . .  If you wish to provide altar flowers in memory or in honor of someone, please sign the chart in the Narthex, fill out a request form found by the chart, and place it along with your check, into the offering plate or deliver to the church office. Flowers are still only $40. Open dates: August 1, 8, 22, 29 and later dates.

Do You Play A Musical Instrument? . . . Would you be willing to share your musical gift as an offering to God on one Sunday this summer?  Please speak to Pastor Simpson, Edmund Needham or Violet Simpson about the possibilities.

Church Parlor Carpet . . .  A total of $700 toward the new parlor carpet was donated by members of UMW who were present at our annual pool party.  The gift is in memory of our dear UMW friends no longer with us.  Their footprints covered the old carpet and their spirits will cover the new one.  We are getting closer to our goal!

Enjoy Your Summer, But Please Do Not Abandon The Church During The Summer Months . . . Your presence is needed at worship to welcome summer visitors and people who are “church shopping” . . . remember your mission is to make disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.  Secondly, our financial obligations continue throughout the summer months.  And finally, we all need to be together and be reminded of the awesome presence of Almighty God in our worship and fellowship each and every week . . . fall, winter, spring, and summer!

VBS . . .The Faith Korean Presbyterian Church will be holding Vacation Bible School on Aug 12-14 each day from 9 AM to 3 PM. The theme is “God with Us: Joseph's journey from Prison to Palace.”  Registration deadline is Saturday, July 31.  We need volunteer teachers/leaders.  Training is required and the schedule will soon be posted.  There is no registration fee and lunch and snacks are provided each day.  Please come join us as we learn about Joseph's amazing journey and how we too can trust God in our lives!  If you need more information, please call the church office.
